Special Events
The Gulf Coast Down Syndrome Society regularly participates in special events in our community to help raise awareness of our mission and to support the generous businesses and organizations that help fund this worthy cause. We invite you to come and show your support for the families and the cause to which we are all dedicated, meet members of our Board as well as the patrons and sponsors that make this all possible.
Please come out to the Blessed Seelos Catholic Church in Biloxi, MS and join us in an Easter Celebration. There will be food and fun, an Easter Egg Hunt (of course) and...how often do you get to have your picture taken with the Easter Bunny?

Buddy Ball
Everyone Has The Ability to Play!
Buddy Ball is for boys and girls with disabilities, ages 4-22, and sometime older, that have the desire to play organized baseball. Each player is assigned to a “Buddy” that will assist with playing the game.
In Buddy Ball, all players get to hit, all players play the field, all players score and all players win. Buddy Ball games are 2-3 innings long and last about one hour. Players are assigned to teams based on ability level. Players usually hit off a tee or the coach pitches to them, softly. Depending upon the number of registered players and the various skill levels, it may be possible to have different divisions of play.
Buddy Ball games will be played on Saturday mornings along with the LBYB tee-ball games. The concession stand and restrooms will both be open and teams will have an announcer for their games. Volunteer Buddies will help the players play the game and parents/guardians/care-givers can sit back and watch. All players will get a team shirt and hat. All volunteers will get a shirt. Everyone will have fun.
Buddy Ball Volunteers
All coaches, buddies and other individuals that will be on the field with the players are required by the City of Long Beach Recreation Board to have a background check before being allowed to participate in the Buddy Ball program. All volunteers will receive training on how the Buddy Ball game is to be played and how to provide positive interaction with the players.
- Volunteers should make every effort to be at each game in order to ensure that every player has a buddy and consistency to the players is maintained.
- Volunteers and players will complete an information sheet that will allow for the best possible matching of players and buddies. Adjustments will be made as needed.
- Volunteers must be age 13 or older to participate, unless it is a players sibling. Go to lbyb.baberuthonline.com to register to play or volunteer.
